Curtis was born in Oklahoma, grew up in Augusta, Georgia, and has 6 siblings. He received his graduate degree (M.Div.) at Temple Baptist Seminary (Chattanooga, TN) and completed his doctorate at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (Louisville, KY).

Before being called back to serve Brainerd, he served as Senior Pastor of Ogletown Baptist Church in Newark, Delaware for 15 years.

He and his wife Shawna have three children, and live in Chattanooga.

Curtis enjoys family time, running, and podcasts. He is a lifelong Oklahoma Sooners fan, and will never miss an opportunity to eat a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup. He loves music of all genres, reading, learning more about history, as well as watching most every sport.
